Continuing Excellence in Organ Donation and Transplantation
Demonstrating your competence through certification is an important first step in maintaining control over your career, but rapid changes in methodologies and technologies require you to keep current with new developments over time. Through recertification, you help ensure continuous intellectual growth and exhibit your continued competence to colleagues and employers, as well as patients and families.
The recertification program facilitates continuing competence in the specialty over the course of a practitioner’s certification period. Through continuing competence, the practitioner integrates and applies the
knowledge, skills, and judgment to practice safely, effectively, and ethically
in a designated role, serving a specific patient population.
Each ABTC certification (CCTC®, CPTC®, CCTN®, CTP®, and CTFC) is valid for three years. There are two ways to recertify:
- You may retake the certification examination – a passing grade will result in recertification.
- You may attend continuing education courses to earn Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification (CEPTCs)
ABTC's recertification system, Certemy, makes it easier for certificants to keep track of recertification credits and ease the process of recertification.
Click here to access the system. The user ID will be the email address that you used to register for your ABTC exam. If you do not recall your email address please contact ABTC at info@abtc.net
When you access your account for the first time, navigate to the login page and select the Reset Password link. It will then prompt you to enter your email address and choose the SEND ME THE LINK button. Certemy will then send you an email. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam or junk folder. The email will provide instructions on how to reset your password. Once logged in, you will see your certification(s) on the left side of the screen.

Requirements for Recertification through Continuing Education
The number of CEPTCs required for recertification through continuing education is 60. Organ donation and transplantation professionals who are dually certified through ABTC must accumulate 90 CEPTCs within the same three-year period.
A recertification fee of $395 and $495 for dual credentials is required to complete recertification. The annual deadline for recertification submission is December 31 for individuals certified prior to April 2020. Effective April 2020, newly certified individual's three-year cycle will begin on the date of initial certification (the date on which the practitioner passed the test) through 3 years from the date of initial certification.
