Accommodations for Testing

ABTC is committed to ensuring access to the ABTC exams for all qualified individuals with disabilities and supports the intention of the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA).

What are accommodations?

Accommodations provide candidates with complete access to an ABTC exam. However, accommodations are not a guarantee of improved performance or test completion. The ABTC test vendor furnishes reasonable and appropriate accommodations to individuals with documented disabilities who demonstrate a need for accommodations. Test accommodations may include, but are not exclusive to the following:

  • A separate testing room
  • Extra testing time
  • Extra breaks

Each candidate’s request for accommodations is individual and each request will be considered on a case-by-case basis to determine the needs of the candidate.

How do I request accommodations?

Candidates requesting ADA accommodations will need to complete the exam accommodation form found on the Examination website page.  The candidate will upload the completed form and signed documentation from a licensed medical professional attesting to candidate's disabilities and requirements in the appropriate field upon submission of the electronic application

Supporting documentation?

Candidates requesting accommodations protected by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) must provide appropriate documentation of the disability and demonstrate how it is expected to impact their ability to take the exam under standard testing conditions. A detailed letter or written report from the evaluator must meet the general criteria:

The evaluator must have credentials to conduct the evaluation.

Report must:

  • Be submitted on the evaluator’s letterhead and identify credentials.
  • Include recent evaluation, relevant history of condition and impact on functioning, and specific diagnosis.
  • Identify specific recommendations for testing accommodations.
How do I schedule an accommodated exam?

Once ABTC has approved a Testing Accommodations Request, the candidate will receive a Notice of Approval from PSI, the testing vendor, along with the nine-digit identification number. Candidates who have had Testing Accommodations Requests approved by ABTC must call the PSI’s special conditions coordinator at 833-333-4755 to schedule an exam location.
